World Health Day 2025

,

World Health Day has been celebrated every year on 7th of April since the founding of WHO to focus public attention on a specific issue. This year, the focus is on maternal and newborn health.

The safety and health of mothers, newborn babies and children play an important role in our work. In disaster situations, it is often these

particularly vulnerable groups that need targeted support and protection.

At Siemens Caring Hands e.V., we attach great importance to working with partner organisations in crisis regions to focus on the health of mothers and children. Thanks to many generous donations, we are able to make an important contribution and help give the people affected a future worth living.

Numerous donations to Siemens Caring Hands e.V. have enabled us to support or initiate the following projects, among others:

  • Afghanistan: In October 2023, Afghanistan was hit by devastating earthquakes that affected more than 250,000 people and claimed more than 2,500 lives. Damage to infrastructure and political instability hampered relief efforts, especially in remote mountainous areas. Together with partner organisations, we have been able to implement important projects, including those that address and support the health of mothers and children. At the Passab Health Centre in Helmand Province, we provided round-the-clock health services for 12 months. This was done in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, with a particular focus on maternal and child health. Thanks to our help, an additional 5,000 people were able to receive treatment. Together with our partner Save the Children, we provided support to internally displaced people in Balkh and Balochistan provinces. This included providing food and special protection for affected children. Together with Caritas, we set up more than 20 small, informal camps specializing in health care for women, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, children and newborns.

  • Pakistan: Siemens Caring Hands worked with the local NGO Indus Hospital and Health Network following the devastating floods in Pakistan. With 68 hospitals destroyed by the floods, the main focus of the aid was a mobile container clinic. This treated patients suffering from an increase in diseases such as malaria, diarrhoea and acute respiratory infections. The mobile clinic also focused on maternal and child health.

  • Morocco: Following the earthquake in Morocco, Siemens Caring Hands worked closely with SOS Children’s Villages Morocco to provide assistance to unaccompanied and separated children. Priority was given to children, families and communities supported by SOS programmes, as well as households headed by single women with children or adolescents. Support was also provided to families and communities directly affected by the humanitarian crisis and in need of assistance. Community centres such as schools, health centres and water, sanitation and hygiene facilities that provide direct services to vulnerable children, women and girls were also supported. Finally, consideration was given to children and young people who may have been abused in the crisis areas.

In the future, we will continue to give special consideration to vulnerable groups such as mothers and children.
With your support for Siemens Caring Hands e.V., we will continue to make a positive difference as a community. We would therefore like to thank you once again for all your donations, without which the realization of all these projects would not have been possible!
