World Water Day 2025

Held annually on 22 March since 1993, World Water Day aims to draw attention to the importance of fresh water. This United Nations day of remembrance raises awareness of the fact that 2.2 billion people do not have access to clean water. Water is an elementary component of our work! At Siemens Caring Hands e.V., we attach great importance to working with partner organisations in crisis regions to ensure access to clean drinking water and sanitary facilities. Thanks to many generous donations, we are able to make an important contribution to rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed by environmental and natural disasters and helping to give the people affected a future worth living.  ­

When humanitarian crises occur, the supply of water and sanitation to the population is often limited. In addition, the water supply affects health, hygiene, agriculture and livelihoods in many ways. Contaminated drinking water can cause diseases to spread quickly and become an additional problem after a disaster. The supply of clean drinking water is therefore an elementary component of direct emergency aid on the ground.                         Our commitment to drinking water supply and health protection: In the past year 2024, we have therefore been involved in various projects to ensure that people can be supplied with clean drinking water and have access to sanitary facilities in the event of a disaster. In addition to providing immediate emergency aid, we are also committed to strengthening resilience in affected regions. Numerous donations to Siemens Caring Hands e.V. have made it possible to support or initiate the following projects, among others:

• Ukraine: Ukraine has been in a state of crisis since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022. The massive devastation and destruction of civilian infrastructure has made it difficult to access basic necessities such as food, water and medicines. Together with local partner organisations, we have implemented diverse and far-reaching aid measures in which the provision of clean water and the promotion of sanitary facilities were an elementary part of the work.

• Spain: Above-average rainfall led to devastating floods in Spain in October 2024. Several hundred people died in the affected areas and many more lost their homes, cars or all their possessions in the floods. An important part of the emergency aid measures provided also included the provision of food, clean drinking water and hygiene products.
